SEO Tips for Small Business

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a crucial part of online marketing for many businesses. If you’re unsure how to get started, this guide will walk you through all the best practices for becoming visible in search results. We’ve also included some tips on what not to do so that your business doesn’t accidentally create bad buzz around itself.

Basic SEO

If you want to succeed in business, it’s helpful to know what SEO is.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It ensures your website is visible in search engines like Google and Bing. If someone types a keyword into a search bar on their browser and your website isn’t at the top of their list, they will likely click on another site instead of yours—which can hurt your business.

Content Creation

If you want to be successful at SEO, content creation is key. And if you want your business to be successful on the web, content creation should be a key part of your marketing strategy.

Content is king because it’s one of the best ways to engage with customers and get links, social shares, and traffic—all important factors in search ranking algorithms. Content also helps improve conversion rates and inform potential customers about their product or service.

Keyword Research

The first step in SEO is keyword research. If you’re not sure what keywords to use, then your SEO strategy will have a hard time gaining traction and attracting visitors.

The best way to find the right keywords for your website is by using one of the many free keyword research tools available online. Some of my favorites include:

  • Google Adwords Keyword Planner
  • Google Trends
  • Google Keyword Planner (GKP)
  • Moz Keyword Explorer (MKE) * SEMRush * Ahrefs

These tools allow you to search through thousands of different keywords that people are looking for on a daily basis so that you can determine which ones will work best for your business.

On-Page Optimization

  • Keyword density
  • Title tags
  • Meta Descriptions
  • Page titles
  • Internal links
  • Alt tags: These are the alternative text descriptions for images on your site. Having alt tags for every image is important because search engines can’t read images, and if you don’t include an alt tag, then people who use screen readers won’t be able to describe what’s in the image when they come across it in search results. They will only see a blank space instead of an image description! Plus, Google uses your alt tags as part of its ranking algorithm, so it’s important not just for accessibility purposes but also to help boost your rankings with Google.
  • Image optimization: You should optimize all images on your website by using proper names (not something like “Picture1”), adding descriptive text or captions (this improves user engagement), and cropping out any unnecessary parts of the picture so that only relevant info remains visible on-screen (which makes pages faster-loading), ensuring file size is small enough without sacrificing quality too much, etcetera.
  • Page load speed: This means making sure everything loads quickly enough so users don’t have trouble accessing pages after clicking through from search results pages; this includes not just pages themselves but also anything else that sits behind them, like ads or social media icons or links, which could significantly slow down page loading times if they aren’t optimized properly—especially if those things aren’t cached properly once clicked into existence! One way around this problem would be to create custom landing pages specifically designed for one type of visitor at a time while still having general navigation between different sections available via tabs at the top left corner (if possible).
